KNS NEWS
2010
Currently KNS is happy to report that we are now accepting applications for requests of financial assistance in order to make it possible for students to pursue exciting, educational opportunities this year. We are also working on our third KNS Oil & Gas Seminar which will be held August 4th and 5th.
2009
This year KNS funded over $18,000 to further exciting, education opportunites for students! The opportunites included sending fourteen teachers and student teachers to the NAGC, as well as helping to support students to go to the Presidential Inauguration, a medical summit, and a mission trip in Japan. We once again hosted the KNS Oil & Gas seminar with renowned speakers, and it was a great success.
2008
KNS is proud to report that we gave over $8000 for students to be able to participate in DECA Nationals, attend camps at the Art Institute in Denver, and be part of the American Legion Boys State competition.
2007
This year has started out with a $5000 donation specifically to fund one or more summer opportunities for students! What a great way to start the year! Please visit the 2007 Summer Camp link for more information.
Grant applications will be a priority in 2007. Anyone interested in helping please call Deb. Experience not necessary. Prior grants have been written and may be used a basis for future applications.
Kansas Next Step was proud to add an intern to their staff this summer. Courtney Schoendaler is a Communications- Public Relations Major at Fort Hays State University. She has been writing Press Releases as well as designing the brochure for the 2007 Seismic Seminar in August.
We are also excited about the 11 students who received a total of $ 10,984.00 in funding to attend summer camps.
2006
Dr. Jean Anna Sellers presented a one-hour seminar on resumes, applications, and reference letters on Thursday, September 28, 2006, at 7 p.m. in the Hadley Center. This seminar assisted students, both high school and college, write successful resumes and applications and will provide tips on getting dynamic reference letters. Dr. Sellers is on faculty at FHSU and is an authority on the job search and buisness etiquette.
Two Hays High School students spent a week in July exploring the various fields of engineering at the University of Kansas’s KU Survivor. The summer program, a residential guys-only camp, introduces high school students, grades 10-12, to engineering and computer science through hands-on activities related to each topic and classes led by KU faculty. Travis Patzner and Andrew Moore, both Hays juniors, were among a group of other Kansas high school students participating in the event. Kansas Next Step sponsored both students’ registration costs of $500, which included lodging, meals, and lab materials.
Donations to KNS included a laser printer, an all-in-one photo printer, two $5,000 donations plus numerous cash donations towards specific programs. We are truly thankful for all those supporting Kansas Next Step in helping students obtain unique and exciting experiences!
During the summer of 2006, we were excited to have Dr. Eric Leuschner help us design new brochures, a newsletter, reply envelopes and a financial information packet. Funding for this project was provided by one of our benefactors. Again, we are very thankful to her as the results are spectacular!
